Meningococcal Meningitis is a serious illness that can claim a life in just 24 hours. It has a CFR (case fatality rate) of 50 % if left untreated & 15 % if treated with sever lifelong complications in more than 20 % of the survivors, predominantly in children.
Vaccination is the key cornerstone for prevention against this life-threatening disease.
As per IAP (Indian Academy of Pediatrics), Meningococcal Vaccination can be given as:
9 months -23 months, 2 doses, at least 3 months apart, if missed single dose above 2 years.
